Japanese seasoned kelp strips (Shiokombu) is a super seasoning that is made with a unique method. Kelp is a large brown seaweed that typically has a long, tough stalk with a broad frond divided into strips. Shiokombu is a strip of kombu (edible kelp) that have been boiled in soy sauce and other ingredients, dried and then cut into pieces. The umami taste of kombu, the flavor of soy sauce, the sweetness of sugar, and the salt content are well-balanced, making it plump, soft and mellow. The Shiokombu is a perfect condiment for fried eggs, vegetable salads, butter toasts, cooked rice, pickles, pasta, and more.
