“Peppernuts were brought to our region of KAnsas by Mennonite immigrants. They were originally made only at Christmas and were a symbol of Holiday hospitality. Because peppernuts were so hard, as you conversed about the past year, or the coming one, you soaked them in tea or coffee to soften them. Our recipe produces a crisp, bite-size peppernut that captures not only the flavor of the original, but it’s spirit of hospitality as well.
