Alpha-linolenic, EPA, DHA, do these names mean anything to you? They are all Omega 3 and our body does not know how to produce them alone.

These essential fatty acids (Omega 3) are vital to the health as they help bolster the immune system by building infection-fighting white blood cells. They are also really useful for heart, growth, and proper brain and eye development during pregnancy and infancy.

But it does not stop there. Sardines contain precious substances essential to our health: proteins, fats and carbohydrates, a winning trio that allows the body to both function and develop. For example, protein is an essential part of everyone’s diet whether you’re six or sixtyas it acts as building blocks for bones, muscles, skin and blood.

We strongly believe that the respect for the environment as well as people must guide our development. That’s why at Connétable those aspects are an integral part of our decision-making process. For example we pay great attention to the recovery of waste generated by our production sites. We implement improvement programs based on the results of audits. Our tins are composed of aluminium, which is a fully recyclable material.

We also follow an energy efficiency improvement program. At Connetable, people are also a priority and we are extremely concerned with the application of decent and respectful working conditions for employees within and beyond our company. This commitment is based on the fisheries conventions of the International LabourOrganization (ILO).

We have always selected our fishes according to criteria corresponding to the specifications of each species while respecting the fundamental principles of sustainable fishing. Now, we reach a further milestone in our engagement with the official recognition of our actions by Bureau Veritas*, an independent body that audits our sourcing. Our approach is based on the 4 pillars of our purchasing policy: marine resource management, product quality, social expectations and transparency, each evaluated through 36 separate criteria. Our purchasing policy requires us, for all our fish procurement, to be above market practices on all these pillars. This official recognition of our Responsible Sourcing policy strengthens our transparency and our long-standing commitment to offer high quality products, that are, both respectful of people and of the Nature.

Founded in Brittany more than 165 years ago, France, Connetable is the oldest sardine cannery still in operation. Our sardines, fished at the best time of the season and freshly delivered to the cannery are selected, sorted and prepared by hand.
