TATTVIK exercises a high level of quality control when choosing partners for cultivation or processing. Best quality Indigo is produced in India. States of Uttarakhand, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh in India are the prime producers of Indigo. Indigo has acclimatized well to the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand in addition to the southern states. Indigo is a shrub plant with a height of 1-1.5 meters, which is grown in the cultivated form. The plant does not have any wild forms, thus it is grown only in cultivated form. Indigo dye is extracted from freshly harvested plants through fermentation and oxidation. The actual colouring matter, indigotin, is present in the leaves in the form of a glucoside (Indican), which is hydrolysed due to the action of an enzyme indimulsion in the presence of dilute acids and alkalis. Direct access to farms ensures better quality control. Indigo plant is cultivated throughout the year which ensures consistent supply to meet the global demands.
PREPARATION
A quarter cup of warm distilled water
A pair of disposable hand gloves
Applicator brush

In a bowl, mix Indigo with warm distilled water; stir it until pudding-like consistency is formed, neither too dry nor too wet and runny.
To avoid making a mess, drape an old towel around your shoulders and put on your rubber gloves. Remember that the dye may stain the clothes you’re wearing. Leave this mixture out for at least 8-10 hours for optimal color release.
Indigo Hair Dye cannot be used without Henna application to dye your hair black.
Before you start application, please make sure that your hair is clean and dry and is free of any excess dirt. This will make the dyeing process easier.
For best results, please apply indigo powder on henna dyed hair or You can mix the indigo powder with pure henna powder. However, the ratio of Henna and Indigo shall be as per the individual’s choice and the original color of the hair and previous colors used. Section your hair & apply the indigo paste with gloves all over your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap or wrap and wait for 3 hours (recommended).
Apply this paste directly to the roots and lengths of your hair.
Rinse the paste with cold/cool water (no shampoo) with/without conditioner and rinse until water runs clear.
You can use color-safe shampoo between 24-48 hours of application to lock your color. Touch-ups on the roots can be done to maintain the desired color.
Your hair will continue to darken if you use an overall application. It may take up to 48-72 hrs for a color to be fully developed.
For an easy and thorough application, divide your hair into as many sections as you want and clip them up.
Work with one section at a time, start applying henna with a hair coloring brush right from the roots to the ends. You can also use your hands for this.
Once you are done with a section, roll the hair strands around your finger into a little curl and stick them to your head.
Once you’re done with applying it to all the sections, apply the remaining paste all over your head and work it in with your hands for complete coverage.
Put on a shower cap to avoid spilling the dye when you move.
If you struggle to apply the dye on your own, you can always take professional help at salons.
