How did The Drip Candle Mountain start?

The Drip Candle Mountain began in 1969. Over the years, we watched as the small wax creation turned into a wax mountain and it quickly became a must-see attraction in our little town. Many people grew up with the drip candle mountain, watching it grow and even adding their own drip candles to it. Many have started their own baby mountains. How did we get our start?

In the late 1960s, the creators of Candlestock were on their way to California, when an ice storm on the NY State Thruway had them detour to Woodstock, NY. The beauty, charm, and energy of the town and its residents drew them in, and they began contributing their candle-making talents to the town's many cultural offerings.

In 1970, Candlestock was opened as a one-room candle shop. The store's reputation grew steadily over the years with a mission to craft beautiful candles that make people happy.

What makes our products unique?

We have been making quality and handmade candles in Woodstock NY for over 50 years. Our mission from the very beginning has always been to make beautiful, quality candles that make people happy. We do our very best to source our materials ethically and look for as many materials locally as possible. All of our candles are handmade by our small crew of candle makers here in our workshop. Whether they are dipped or hand-poured, each candle is carefully crafted by hand to ensure our customers are getting candles that they will love.

What types of wax do we use?

We specialize in 100% beeswax candles and we also use other natural waxes. We love the long burn and natural honey scent of beeswax. But we also love our vegan candle customers so for them, we offer scented and unscented soy wax. Our drip candles are made from vibrantly colored paraffin wax, and it wouldn't be New Year's Eve without our traditional bayberry wax. All our candles are made with clean-burning cotton wicks.
