If I were you, I’d start cold calling gaming stores asking if somebody maybe has one that they’re willing to sell. It’s probably not stocked in stores anymore, but maybe someone bought it as kind of a collector’s item and could be persuaded to part with it.

Edit: There seems to be a larger zip around wallet/clutch that was released by Nintendo at the same time. If your friend carries a purse, that might be an option.
