I have one from the 90s, it’s cool having something that was quality made in the US, supported jobs and families, built to last generations, knowing you can depend on it.

In defence of the new ones, I’d say they’re still the most robust thermoses about even if the quality has dropped with the offshoring of production.

I’ve had Thermos, Kambukka and neither hold a candles to modern Stanley in robustness.

This post has sparked some reading and it appears that you can now buy more robust versions of the Aladdin vacuum bottle that have the charcoal liner and thicker stainless. Perhaps the market spoke and they responded?

I lived with an old school thermos for a few weeks and the leaks and dribbles down my clothing were a buzz kill, got a thermoflask and haven't looked back

I completely agree. It’s an amazing product and a shame that it all went away and isn’t what it was anymore. Take care of them and they’ll last a several lifetimes.

Are modern Stanley thermoses not as good?

I have several and they work perfectly. People like to get romantic about products from the past and act as if they’re superior but Stanley makes a great product to this day.

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that the quality control is lacking and the chances of getting a good one is hit and miss. There is likely survivor bias as well: the US made ones that stopped working got thrown away, so all that’s left are the good ones.
