I completely agree. It’s an amazing product and a shame that it all went away and isn’t what it was anymore. Take care of them and they’ll last a several lifetimes.
I have several and they work perfectly. People like to get romantic about products from the past and act as if they’re superior but Stanley makes a great product to this day.
There is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that the quality control is lacking and the chances of getting a good one is hit and miss. There is likely survivor bias as well: the US made ones that stopped working got thrown away, so all that’s left are the good ones.
