Most of the info online says that synthetics are the most durable and the best choice for kids and pets, especially nylon and viscose. However, when you look at 'longevity', synthetic rugs have a lifespan of <5 years, while wool rugs can have a lifespan of 50 years+, apparently.

What gives? How can a material be the best choice for kids and pets, if it has such a short lifespan.. This makes no sense to me.

I do plan on getting a dog. So, what would you guys recommend? I think house accidents should never happen, but it's always a possibility when having pets.

I have water underfloor heating (not sure this matters).
And another thing: 95% of the synthetic rugs I found are either polyester or polypropylene, so really I'm looking for polyester/polypropylene vs wool comparison.

Wool rugs here are twice as expensive as the polyester/polypropylene rugs.

Hopefully someone knowledgeable can come to rescue, cause I'm very confused on what I should go for haha.

P.S.: I also found a couple cotton rugs I liked, but it seems like cotton is not a good choice. Thought I'd mention it in case I'm wrong.
Edit: thanks everyone. I went for a wool rug. Also, give this a read, it's great: https://rugchick.com/buying-rugs-tips-for-the-nervous-rug-shopper/
