I bought a dozen eggs from a store in NYC recently (running an errand for a friend I was crashing with). $3.91 for a dozen so yeah not so far off from what I expect.
In my experience the type of store and the brand of eggs matter more than anything else

Unit price is still cheaper at Target. 18 eggs at $6.99 is .39 cents per egg
12 eggs at $4.99 you pay slightly more at .42 cnets and egg. Im spiltting hairs here. but I enjoy saving money
