For context, I don't work for Big Y; I have a cushy work from home job in software. I've been talking with the cashiers at Big Y and it turns out that management doesn't let the cashiers sit at all. I asked if the floor cushioning was adequate and they said no, definitely not, but what can you do.

Is there anything we as customers can do to get Big Y (and any other stores engaging in this "no sit" rule) to change? I know in Europe the cashiers of course are allowed to sit. I'm so sick of these inhumane practices our companies are allowed to wield over their helpless employees in this country. I'm going to be a "Karen" and complain to the management and bug HQ with calls.

Does this bother anyone else? If so, please start complaining too...

Edit: I’m really surprised at some of the backlash this is getting. Are we not in a liberal state? Do we not want more worker rights? Why are we happy with workers being forced to stand in one spot (which is MUCH harder than walking) for a shift when there is absolutely no benefit to anyone and it is all for appearances?

Edit 2: Yes I get most supermarkets and retail stores don't allow cashiers to sit... For absolutely no reason. What we need is a Right To Sit law like a few other states have. If you don't think minimum wage workers should have a right to choose to sit if they can still do the job, then buzz off. It would cost companies nothing to implement and loses them nothing. All it does is give minimum wage workers the opportunity to go home feeling a little less tired so they can make better use of their free time. Is that so bad? We all know worker rights suck in this country and mandated paid leave is never coming.
