If there's food around, they may not.

I have a co-worker in Granby who had a bear hibernate under their deck. They had no idea until it came out in the spring.

I’ve read they start hibernating mid November

That must have been quite the surprise.

I’ve always wondered this. Always living in the city, I rarely have ever seen bears. But it’s been growing warmer since I was a kid and I’ve noticed in uptick in sightings on the news. It’s nice not having to wear a jacket when I take my kids trick or treating though.

I hear they’re extremely tall!

Unrelated but DEEP drops off any relocated bears up in good ole Goshen

Bears don’t truly hibernate in CT. They become less active and sleep a lot but on warmer days you’ll still see them out.

Bears are ok, I hope mountain lions don't recolonize in our area. They like to attack people more often than bears

Why in Goshen? Put them in Salisbury so they can go on Bear Mountain!

Still, it goes without saying that if you see a sleeping bear, do yourself a favor, turn the other way.

Just... don't

Bears in CT don't necessarily hibernate (they will if it's consistently cold) but they will seek shelter when it's cold; usually where getting food is easy. And with the way people feed bears around here, food isn't necessarily hard to get.

Did they change the bear rent? Or did he at least leave a good review on AirBNB.

Have you ever seen a sleeping bear?

This happened in the neighborhood I use to live in. The house across the street was unoccupied and a bear moved in under the porch and had cubs. DEEP sedated and tagged the mom and weighed the cubs. My neighbor got to hold one of them. They didn't relocate them, DEEP said that they'd do it on their own because the den was disturbed by people.

In Connecticut, black bears can remain active for periods throughout winter, especially if there is little snow cover and mild temperatures. I have never seen a bear in Winter, hike all winter.
