I was following a vehicle from Maine yesterday. The plate said Work Sux. I wanted to follow that vehicle forever knowing my new best friend that I hadn't met yet was driving.

Is anyone else sick of the “CT sucks” trope used by both former and current residents?

I went to a comedy show Saturday in Branford and half the jokes from 3 comics were shitting on CT and it’s towns… it’s very lazy comedy.

Yup.. it's lame, hacky, and unoriginal. If you think this place sucks, I'd say leave, and go find your place, if you can't find the good here, then why stay? It's so weird people just hang about shitting on the place, but do nothing to change that. Also, I'd say the people who think CT sucks, either don't try hard enough to make it not suck, and it's mostly on them and their disposition on life in general.

  • Statistically one of the safest places in the world on several metrics, including natural disasters, dangerous wild animals, and more.
  • Progressive-minded people (mostly).
  • Strong Medicaid system compared to other states.
  • Easy access to the Northeastern United States with two major cities within 2 hours.
  • and in my personal opinion: the geography and nature of CT/New England is much prettier than the majority of the United States.

But hey, keep being miserable.

You just listed the reasons, outside of employment change I moved here.

Imagine having the free time and energy to hate something like a "state." Imagine having the free time and energy to get a license plate that expresses that hate. Kinda sad.

Have to wonder what sort of butt-hurt this person suffered in Connecticut, or maybe their ex lives here. There's a reason they're called "Maine-iacs".

As I said in another thread, most people who hate taxes don't understand them and usually live way beyond their means (big car payments, big house payments, a boat). They tend to blame their own poor financial decisions on the state. I am not a fan of the taxes I pay in CT, but I get it. More annoyed by how much of my federal taxes go to other states. Which are usually the ones these people want to be like.

Imagine holding onto that kind of hatred towards a state ? Anyone unhappy and complaining can hit the highway. The state is and would be better off without you. The people who feel the need to do stuff like this, I promise you live in a prison of their own frail minds

unverifiable_facts t1_j5kegkx wrote

Do you even understand what cost of living is? Yes it costs more to live in a better place where there are better, higher paying jobs.

The taxes is the only thing we’ll agree on, but for me, it’s offset by all the positives.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I lived there for like 3/4 months a few years ago and bought a car and registered it there. Its 25 for a vanity plate, I was trying to get “polack” but they blocked it so settled for “kilbasa” lol

puftreelivefree t1_j5kj23r wrote

being a commercial plate, the cost of registration in maine is half of what it is in connecticut, so their statement makes sense

I for one think it's funny. Then again I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this state, your opinions may differ.

Yes if they hate it so much then they should go find the door. Maybe there's a certain sort of person who would say that no matter what state they lived in. They could pile up their vanity plates from each one.

What's ironic here is that a lot of CT residents register their vehicles in Maine because they save on vehicle tax compared to CT and the state is so backwater that their DMV still hasn't figured out how to fix the problem. It's been happening for like 30 or 40 years..

OT but I really appreciate like for the most part everyone on this thread is keeping it positive about CT. It’s so easy to go negative no matter where you live. I feel like the person that this license plate clearly has issues beyond this State 😒

uuuge t1_j5mmsc0 wrote

Not only is the registration fee hundreds of dollars cheaper on average, maine doesn't require an emissions test, and insurance is much cheaper as well, sometimes a thousand dollars cheaper per year or more.

As I said before, Maine is so backwater that whoever I'm arguing with lives in such an isolated bubble they have no idea how the world works.

Relax and fire up that wood stove.

Northeast VT, but let’s be real not much of a distinction. Just cracking up about you thinking our DMV’s are somehow losing from a bunch of flatlanders giving us their money, and telling us to go “fire up our wood stoves” like it’s an insult.

I moved from CT to AL and back to CT. AL sucks so much harder than CT. Hope you don’t have kids - those low Alabama taxes mean some of the worst schools in the country.

Maine is supposed to be red necky and slightly trashy. It’s the backwoods. What’s your excuse for the trashy rednecks that populate CT?

I live a very busy and fulfilling life to the point where the weather outside is irrelevant. I think you may have a bigger underlying issue if you can’t entertain yourself because it’s dark and cold out.

Edit: also did you just cite one, specific year to try to prove your “6 month winter statement?” You realize a one-off doesn’t back up your argument. I’m glad you left CT, it likely brought up our state’s intelligence level.

1

unverifiable_facts t1_j5oisg7 wrote

Yes I am incredibly bland because I am content with where I live and I know how to have fun and entertain myself independent of temperature and weather. You’re a bozo! Please don’t even come back to CT to visit!

1

unverifiable_facts t1_j5omggp wrote

Yea… it was an example. You first stated that CT has 6 month long winters. I corrected you, and you gave AN EXAMPLE of ONE YEAR where it was a long winter, when statistically, the majority are not like that. You’re moving goalposts to fit your argument.

Your Florida is 100% showing moron

Ahahahahaha dude for someone who claims they are having such a lovely life in shithole FL, you’ve got the time to search my post history (not even my main account) to try to troll me?

1.5/5 troll.

You must really hate your life if you’re projecting like this.

Edit: checked your page and saw your pic… yeah man I doubt you’re ever from CT. You look like an inbred FL man. You’ve found your home!

1

unverifiable_facts t1_j5ot6l5 wrote

Yes… they can and do… but the majority don’t. I’ve made this point like a dozen times… idk why you can’t get it lol.

Tell us again how great your FL life is while you sit there and troll a state you don’t live in. CousinFuckerLarry

I genuinely don’t get it. There are assholes everywhere. Yet reading the state subs, there seems to be this intense hatred for CT in particular in northern New England. Yet I don’t personally know a single person who doesn’t love and appreciate the state of Maine and treat it - all of it, its natural areas, its residents, the towns - as a respectful guest should when they’re there. Same with VT and NH. Who are these people from CT who are going around giving us such a bad reputation? Most of us are just normal people living our lives.

Also I don’t know where this idea comes from that CT is all Yankees fans. The majority of people I know are Pats, Sox and Bruins fans. Maybe it’s just the part of CT I’m from.

Wow how much are your taxes? I got a shock when I moved from Florida to Maine with a three month old car that I just paid taxes on in Fl when I bought it, and had to pay almost $800 in excise tax to register it in Maine.
