I recently moved into a new home in Connecticut, and while I was unpacking, I noticed that my white carpet had some dark stains. I want to avoid using harsh chemicals and prefer a more natural approach. I've heard about using baking soda and vinegar, but I'm unsure if that will work on my particular stains.

It's possible that the issue isn't the solution you're using, but rather the way you're applying and cleaning with it.

Even a less expensive carpet cleaner can work wonders, so don't worry about spending too much. It's worth considering getting one so you can clean your carpets a few times a year. You'll be amazed at how dirty your carpets were once you see the water that's sucked back up.

Plus, since you have white carpets, investing in one of these machines is probably a good idea.

This sounds odd, but we have been using Nature's Miracle enzymatic cleaner since moving into our "new to us" home. We had the carpets pro cleaned, of course, but we have had some mud, some puppy puke, and some ?? stains show up and I swear this stuff is a miracle, just like the name infers.

It is very possible that a high traffic area has simply worn out. The die used to color the carpet fibers has worn and that is why you don't see a difference in your cleaning attempts. My mom had this issue with a carpet that was less than 10 years old. Turned out to be a defect in manufacturing.

Where in the state are you? If you're on or near the shoreline (I'm not exactly sure how far they go), I'd look into Clean In Between out of Westbrook.
