Can I fix this raised carpet! (Photos in post)

My apartment is about ten years old, the carpet is getting worn. I know I’ll have to replace it one day but for now the idea of moving all my furniture to do so stresses me out.

Whilst walking on it yesterday, I noticed this raised area connected to the kitchen tiles which sinks when I step on it.

What is going to happen to this part of the carpet over time? Will it become a problem? Is it an easy fix to glue it back down?

it could be just loose carpeting that will become evidence in high traffic areas. It could also be the metal has come loose from the floor. Either way it would just need a slight re-stretching, and to be reattached.

I believe you can use a transition plate from the carpet to the floor; We just started pulling up our carpet after 10 years as we saw underneath made us decide to get rid of carpet throughout the whole house; also not having carpet is very cost-effective in the long run

What I would do is go to the left or right side and loosen the corner. Get a carpet pull and give it a few whacks to pull it tight. Because I cant see either side, I would suggest if possible you get a carpet transition strip.

Re: the kicker. My brother always used a homemade one for tightening up the carpet in his rentals. A 2x4 with a lot of screws poking part way out the bottom and some tapping with a mallet.

But it looks like you'll have to see if you can pry up the metal edge -- otherwise you'll have to stretch away from it.

Former floor covering installer; it’s literally a 30 minute job, maybe less. The carpet has become stretched which does occur over time. The affected area just needs to be detached from the tackstrip, restretched a bit and reattached. I would recommend finding a local installer who does side jobs. If I were to take on a task such as this I’d charge about $50-$75. A person could peel up the carpet and just use a knee kicker but that will not stretch the carpet properly and the problem may reappear in a couple of years. Hope this helps.
