Does the paint need a second coat to work? I see gallons usually cover 250-300 sq ft, but is that just one coat or that many square feet for 2?
That’s for one coat of coverage
The primer coat and one coat will be fine, but a second coat never hurts
Agreed. My 8x12 shed came primed, and with a gallon, was able to coat the entire shed with one coat and the the two sides I can see from the house with a second coat. :)
Top quality Sherwin Williams exterior covers excellent on one coat. If needed do a second light coat.
And no a quality paint is the coating.. Factory preprimed wood( or whatever) should hold up really good with any quality paint

Or at least the south side ;-)

Any decent exterior paint will do. No coating necessary. I like Sherwin Williams A-100. One of their "lower" quality lines, but a very solid paint. My house and shed are both painted with it. Amazingly little fading after like 12 years, compared to some neighbors who used other paints. However, considering a shed usually only needs a gallon, it may be better to go with one of their higher quality, longer lasting paints. Could be worth $10 or $20 more to get 5-7 more years out of it.
