New whirlpool slow to fill

I recently purchased a new Whirlpool washing machine and it takes hours just to fill up with water. The weird thing is that only happens with the first refill - the second one is really fast. So if it were a blocked filter (I already checked that), the water pressure, or the valve not being opened then it would refill slowly both times. Any troubleshooting recommendations? I did google this and it told me to check the 3 things I mentioned before.

Call the place you bought it and tell them it appears defective as the fill time is far beyond excessive. Also explain the above. You checked your valves, filters, and so on. They may send a technician at no cost to check it out. Just make sure you can reproduce the problem if they send a tech.

Finally, if you have anti-flood hoses, make sure they are not defective.

I am still under the 1 year warranty so I'll probably do that. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something super simple that I could fix myself.

I'm thinking if it were an issue with the hoses that it would fill slowly both times but the second time around it fills quickly.

That's why I specified flood safe or anti-flood hoses. They have valves inside that detect leaks (in different ways) and shut off. Those valves can become defective, so for instance the first time you use the washer in a day, they partially close, but the second time, they open.

I sounds however, like the electric valves in the washer are faulty.

Ahh makes sense. If they're defective then that should be covered under warranty so I'll let the technician replace those. Thanks for your help!

Do you have both hor and cold water lines hooked up? If only cold, are you washing cold/cold? Washer might be assuming it's getting warm water also and cutting flow from the cold. Just a thought.

Believe it or not, this only has 1 hookup for water which I have connected to cold water (it does not have temp options either). I live outside the US and most people don't have centralized hot water, just locally in the shower.

just saw this after making another comment. Do you have the model number handy, i'd like to look into how this machine is set up. It may have separate valves for different parts of the cycle (even on 1 feed line) and may have a defective valve for the start of the cycle

So i found a video review of that model and it had a temp selection, as well as hot and cold inputs on the rear of the machine. If you've only got the cold hooked up, its possible this machine mixes hot and cold for normal wash, then uses only cold for rinse. That would explain why the flow is slow on the first fill, but normal on the second.

Sorry, I was 1 letter off it's a WW19LTAHLA. The other model does have hot and cold but this one has only 1 hookup for water.

The first fill for the wash cycle is at the temperature selected for the cycle. All rinse cycles (the second fill) are typically cold water. So going off your description, your cold water valve is working properly (assuming theres only 1, ive seen machines with up to 7 valves) and if your washing on a warm/hot cycle then your issue could be the hot valve or supply.
