It’s already leaving a scar. I wouldn’t call what they’re doing as “growing” a nose. They’re taking existing skin and molding it into a 3d nose shape which has the effect of ruining the skin in that area on her arm. Preferable to no nose but not growing, IMO.

Slight correction, but the article says they 3d printed it with synthetic biomaterials and attached it to her arm instead of just using existing tissues in her arm. I'm sure existing tissue plays a big role in it but most of it is 3d printed.

I think the synthetic materials is just to give it structure. You can see how much skin they intended to use before they started the process and you can see massive scar tissues at the bottom of the second picture where they used it.
