Even attempting this should be highly illegal, and AI should be written with safeguards to prevent people from trying. Anyone who gets caught attempting this should go to prison for a long time.

I think it should require a credible threat. The fact of the matter is we live in a society where people could cause massive amounts of damage fairly effortlessly if they wanted to. I don't think someone should face punishment for looking shit up out of curiosity.
