It hit me one day that no one knows what they are doing in life. Everyone is just trying to make it work and get through, just like I am. We are all doing what we can to manage, to cope, to be our best selves. It was this realization that helped me most with this. Of course I always knew it intellectually, but it wasn’t until I was an adult that it really sunk in. Ever since, I have a much easier time not getting upset by what other people do. If someone acts like an asshole, I don’t like it, but I also realize consciously now that they are probably really unhappy. I used to get rude when I was overwrought pr upset, but I am much better at controlling that now, and what made that possible for me was understanding that taking it out on others made it worse, and was not effective anyway. I just was angry and felt bad too. When people do things that bother you, it helps to remember they are just trying to live as best they can.

I try to remember..When someone is being unkind it means they are struggling. I try not to take it personally..
