The Portuguese version of it had a lot of actual Wikipedia editors in it. It died down since some gave up on Wikipedia, so they would stop editing over Desciclopédia. That said, they made some very popular memes.

That happened a long time ago. I started editing on Wikipedia around ~2017, so I only hear some gossip from that time.

It’s the same problem that every parody site that does this has.

They pretend to be alt-right in a way that anyone with logic will understand is glaringly obvious. Unfortunately, alt-right types are both lacking in critical thinking, and also in personal connections. So, they see a place that posts the things they genuinely believe, and feel like they fit in - even though everyone else is doing it satirically.

Eventually, the alt-right types get more and more populous, and push things further and further, and the logical people slowly start to think “okay this place is a shithole now” and move on. Aaannndddd slowly it becomes another neo-Nazi website.

This happens often, especially because of how quick and easy it is to make “content” nowadays. Satire forums are a dead medium, unfortunately. They will always end up like this unless they’re policed heavily- and people hate overzealous moderation.

There actually have been at least 3 over the years. One was on wikia then Fandom. There was another one made by those thar hated that. Wikia kicked the first one. This one is not a descendent of wikia I can tell from articles.

Per tv tropes "A large handful of the site's members executed a fork in January 2013, meaning that two versions of the site are now active."
