My wife and I saw this tip after watching the based-on-a-true-story tv series Unbelievable with Toni Collette. The intruder who had broken in and assaulted a girl oddly enough let her know how he got in and gave her security tips before leaving.

I felt pretty stupid for not having done this in my home, especially considering how cheap and easy it was. Home Depot, Lowe’s, or whatever hardware store is near you typically carry these thin wooden poles called dowels or dowel rods, and they will cut them to whatever length you need for your windows and sliding doors.

They cost about $2 and will make your entries much more secure. Here’s an article I found that might be helpful or you can just Google “dowel rods for sliding doors.” My wife feels a lot safer having them in, and I figured there might be some folks out there that would, too.
