I want the box for when I sell the cellphone in a year.

Hell, I have boxes (that I will use some day) for items I that bought ten years ago, and some are many times the size of a cellphone box.

Difficult to do on a stolen/lost phone.

However, all iPhones are registered against your Apple ID, and so you can look up the IMEI from any Apple device or iCloud.

LPT: Go ahead and toss the box that your cellphone came in, but save the IMEI/serial number.
