I disagree with this one. I’ve worked in restaurants for years… the soda dispensed from fountain machines are designed to be slightly diluted with ice and taste much better that way.
Also, unless you’re getting your food to-go, any sit-down restaurant has unlimited free refills for the duration of your stay. So unless you’ve got a bad server who isn’t on top of refills, I don’t much see the point in this.

Honestly be cleaner too, who knows the last time they cleaned the ice machine.

Depending on the soda, ask for more ice and save yourself from (some) of that mountain of sugar.

It's the same machine as the fountain. If anything there's less bacteria food and colder temps leading to less growth of whatever

Mmm slightly chilled thick bubbly toxic syrup.
Ice is a necessary ingredient in a fountain drink

It’s crazy how much excess ice one gets.

Ask for light ice or "easy ice". You get enough to cool the drink but it doesn't get as watery when it melts.

Right? The last thing most people need is even more bubbly corn syrup water.

If you order an iced coffee from McDonald’s, order it light ice. Get more coffee

Terrible tip. I don’t know if there’s anyone on the planet that would benefit from having more soda in their diet.

To me a drink with no ice does not taste right but a drink full of ice is worse, I usually ask for 3 or 4 ice cubes or less than a 1/4 full of ice if it is crushed, because it is needed to break the carbonation, i.e. the fizz. My nephew did the no ice for your reason, but I get that small tap of ice even at self serve soda dispensers.

I can't say you're wrong because soda fountains are line chilled, so it is cold coming out, but it almost immediately warms up due to room temperature. If you chug it right away, you'll get a good sweet treat with a caffeine boost. This isn't an LPT, though. You ask for extra lemons and Splenda with your ice water, too, probably.

I too am a no ice kinda person. It tastes like watered down sadness with all that ice.

This is patently false.
Large_hearted_boy t1_j5epkcm wrote
This is another misconception that people have… in a drink filled to the top with ice, the ice actually melts slower and waters the drink down less than than one filled with mostly beverage and like .5 or .25 ice.
