If you've been using your washing machine for at least a year, the inside is likely full of black mold and mildew. Here's how to get rid of it!
-
Wear rubber gloves.
-
Prepare a strong bleach solution (1/2 cup bleach in 3L of water).
-
Open the detergent drawer of your washing machine and remove it completely. Place the drawer into the bleach solution to soak.
-
Look inside the hole left from the drawer. It's all black and gross! Soak a washcloth in the bleach solution and clean this space as well as you can. Use an old toothbrush for the nooks and crannies.
-
Use a brush to scrub the drawer and remove any dirt from it. Place it back inside the washing machine.
-
Use a washcloth soaked with bleach solution to clean the the rubber seal of the washing machine.
-
Close the door of the washing machine.
-
Pour about 1/2 cup of bleach into the detergent compartment of the drawer and close it.
-
Set your machine to do a 90°C cycle.
After it's over, your washing machine will be good as new. Your clothes will smell great! Do this once a year to keep your machine clean. Bleach is cheap, it's a strong disinfectant, and doesn't damage the rubber parts of your machine like vinegar does.
