If you've been using your washing machine for at least a year, the inside is likely full of black mold and mildew. Here's how to get rid of it!

  1. Wear rubber gloves.

  2. Prepare a strong bleach solution (1/2 cup bleach in 3L of water).

  3. Open the detergent drawer of your washing machine and remove it completely. Place the drawer into the bleach solution to soak.

  4. Look inside the hole left from the drawer. It's all black and gross! Soak a washcloth in the bleach solution and clean this space as well as you can. Use an old toothbrush for the nooks and crannies.

  5. Use a brush to scrub the drawer and remove any dirt from it. Place it back inside the washing machine.

  6. Use a washcloth soaked with bleach solution to clean the the rubber seal of the washing machine.

  7. Close the door of the washing machine.

  8. Pour about 1/2 cup of bleach into the detergent compartment of the drawer and close it.

  9. Set your machine to do a 90°C cycle.

After it's over, your washing machine will be good as new. Your clothes will smell great! Do this once a year to keep your machine clean. Bleach is cheap, it's a strong disinfectant, and doesn't damage the rubber parts of your machine like vinegar does.
