Same. It seems like a monument to human arrogance... that we turned into a tourist trap and gift shop.

Lots of cold war era plane crash locations if you know where to look…

Interesting. I’ve visited the B52 crash site but wasn’t aware there were more.

Not me specifically but I know a lot of Mainers have little or no experience on the ocean. Perhaps they are intimidated by the summer people but it make me sad how many people are missing out on one of the greatest assets of the state.

Moosehead Lake, Acadia National Park, Portland Head Light........
I really want to go to Coos Canyon area to pan for gold.

You have not missed a thing.

I’m one of them. We stayed inland at the lakes and mountains during the summers. Less tourists and honestly I like it better anyway. I’ve slowly been exploring the Maine coast more over the years.

Coos is great for swimming on a nice summers day.

Sit down, we'll be here for a couple hours...no, actually, we'll be here for a day or two.

I hate people and yet I've swam in the ocean before. Many a day was spent with me jokingly screaming at it, thinking they had some ulterior motive against me that would ruin my boogie-boarding...
Hell, I'd live by the ocean if the cons didn't outweigh the pros.

The lakes and mountains are great but so is the coast and they are VERY different. Especially the boating opportunities. Sailing is a great way to explore the coast if you know someone with a boat.

I snowmobiled there once. Very cool in the winter

The B52 is the most well known but there are quite a few across the state:

The one in Augusta is consistently one of the best ranked in the nation. Went their recently and it was the best Denny's I've had to 2 decades. It was ACTUALLY Denny's as remembered.

Big fan of the one-way Downeaster train to Boston. Sadly there’s nowhere to park in Portland so you’ll have the best luck pushing your car into the back bay.

What even is it? Like some sand dune? I doubt it could compare to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a favorite place for my family to visit in Michigan.
