Texture is one part but the materials themselves will have differences too.

Reply to Let's talk about Gasket Mount by MikitStore
The community uses bounce and flex interchangeably and idk if there’s technically a distinction between them, but for me: flex is all about flexibility of the pcb and maybe plate, and bounce is about the vertical movement of the whole pcb + plate. Both contribute to a soft typing experience.
For example, the tiger80 has really thick gaskets (although a bit different because I think it relies a bit on a pocket of air?) and a 1.2mm pcb with long flex cuts across each row. That has a super soft typing feel and imo very satisfying.
I have a mode65 thats top mount and I have a flex cut solder pcb and half plate. Its not bouncing up and down like gaskets allow, but its still very flexible with a flex cut on top and below the alphas. Also a soft typing feel and satisfying.
I think its funny you mention people are disappointed when its not obviously flexy, because the community in the west hates flex cuts because of the sound, and maybe it could be because bigger content creators have stated that flex cuts aren’t for them. But I’ve heard flex cuts are popular in the east which is why so many boards came out with flex cuts. And so it seems to me people just don’t want a stiff board.
People loved the qk65 despite its flex cuts. Imo, those flex cuts did nothing lol. I had one, sold it because it felt stiff, but everyone else loved it. It wasn’t stiff enough to make my fingers tired after a while, but I was just disappointed because content creators mentioned flex and bounce and that board practically had neither for me. Imo, the gasket socks just weren’t thick enough. There was almost no bounce, and the flex cuts were so small they didn’t allow much more flex than if it were to have no flex cuts.
So I think if you guys implement thick gaskets people would appreciate it. Because a flexible pcb isn’t well received apparently, so I guess the next route is looking to make the board feel soft by making it bouncy.
I don’t think a board needs to be super flexy for me to buy one, even though I love flexy boards, there is such a thing as too much. I’ve realized that now with my plateless jris65 that I’ve modded to not bottom out when I press hard.

Abs on my k10, the product page should say. I have mine a fair shake but finally swapped them yesterday. I prefer the harder textured feel of pbt (stock set on my ducky one2) and had a set that I bought on clearance a while ago and finally put on.
The keychron caps broke in a bit with use and got less smooth but I still don't readily like them.
9 months with this board, used 3-4 days a week for work but not continuous typing

Whatever comes with the K8. Checking the product page again at the very bottom it specifies the keycaps as OEM profile ABS keycaps. They're super smooth and have a very satisfying touch to them. I was actually really, really put off by my first official GMK set that I got as a replacement because of how rough the texture was in comparison...

You aren't alone, but I'm not in agreement. In general, I prefer the greater sense of gription that PBT usually has.

Some people just enjoy the building process/collecting. It’s a great feeling putting something together from scratch with premium parts and it turning out beautifully.

Warhammer is much worse. MTG you can proxy with a printer and some paper. Warhammer is a bit harder to do that with.

Which stock keycaps? They have both ABS and PBT. I had the stock ABS k2 v2 keycaps, but they felt terrible. Now I'm kind of interested in that rubbery feeling you described.

I would say Keykobo (the sets I have) sit in on the same level as JTK, but worse than Domikey on the Alphas. I've heard that they've done some updates to the moulds recently, but generally for the price of a Keykobo set it's still excellent value. GMK overall for legends is still the most consistent across different sets.

Can someone tell me what the stock keycaps of Keychron boards are made out of? They feel super smooth, almost as if they had a thin layer of rubber around them. I really like the feel and sound of them but would like them with a different design. Are those ABS?

>Thanks! I was worried I might get murdered immediately for my cable not matching my red keys or something lol.
The best advice I can give you about this hobby is to do what works for YOU, and ignore what other people think about it.
If that's mixing keycap colors, moving keycaps to a different row, turning keycaps upside down, or sticking rubber cabinet bumpers onto your keys as homing dots, go for it.
I actually do all of those things, on my keyboards, and I don't apologize for it.
That is what works, for me.

Great, easy suggestions. I also recommend swapping the plate out which Keychron sells on their site. I believe they all come stock with steel plates, I swapped mine with aluminum and it helped the sound profile sound deeper but also made typing on it more enjoyable for me. Also pretty easy to do!
