Who’s got the deeper voice?

my friend and I got into a debate. I wanted to use Barry White as an example of an artist who has a super deep voice, but he countered that we should use Louis Armstrong. He said louis had a much deeper voice, but I wasn’t relenting because Barry white’s voice sounds way deeper to me.

The debate has been over for awhile now, and I don’t care about proving him wrong, but I am curious to know the answer.

You could all probably tell that I know absolutely nothing about music besides being a fan of listening to it, so I apologize if this sounds ignorant or not very nuanced.

According to Range Planet, across their respective catalogs, Armstrong’s vocal range was G♯1 - B♭4, and White’s was F♯1 - E5. So White barely edges out Satchmo here.

Then again, the word “deep” is not well defined and open to personal interpretation. I would personally give it to White, as his voice is more resonant in lower registers, but you could make a case for either.

Of course, the real answer to your debate is Peter Steele.
