Nice. Just checked this out and it looks great.
Much better and varied playlists than Spotify creates by itself.
Silly question: where do I find these generated playlists please?
You can keyword search in the same spot you search for specific bands/songs. For example, if you wanted chill lofi you just type that in and filter by Playlist. Other terms might be "rock rhlunning" or "pop workout" etc. Depends on what you want. You can also find a button that will make a station based on an artist or song if you scroll down a bit. So if you like Tupac, you can have it play a station that will populate with other songs/artists the algorithms think Tupac fans will like.
Thanks!
Apple Music's API integration is much less open and limited in regards to music recommendations. If there is a lot of demand I will consider some research to try and make something similar for Apple Music.
Thanks! I would have also liked a years filter, and I even tried integrating it in the initial version, but Spotify doesn't fully support this. One problem was that Spotify cannot always fully distinguish between the day the song was originally released and the day the remastered recording or the compilation album was released and that caused a lot of problems.
Really enjoy the instrumental feature, good stuff
You can see all the raw data with various services like http://sortyourmusic.playlistmachinery.com/
I'm gonna bug recommend the enhance feature. Just make a playlist with the stuff you want, hit enhance, and it'll provisionally add a bunch of related or similar songs. They're marked so you know which are recommended by spotify, and then they have a button to actually add it and one to remove it.
Awesome, thanks!
I hope it will! You can create an endless number of playlists based on one song, each different than the other, just by using the different settings. Choose a song, move the slider to happy and save a playlist. Then, using the same songs, move it to sad and save again. You will have 2 different playlists based on the same song.
No. You have to start with a song. But try using the "genre" filter to fine-tune your resulting playlist.
You can search for "year:1980" on Spotify though. Does this work on this app too?
That’s cool!
Does Spotify have this metadata (like mood and non) already and is accessible over their API, or are you obtaining that info from somewhere else and pairing it with the song?
I’m curious, what exactly are you making money off of? Having mobile apps only (no web version) makes me think you can access -very- rich data from users in and out of the app (not implying anything nefarious, it’s totally normal but I don’t think ppl realize this), but I don’t quite understand what data you’re capturing or what specifically generates revenue for you. Ya know.. free app=we are product.

Good questions! :-)
I hope this answers your questions. Thanks!
Don't know what's wrong with yours, mine changes often
Thank you. Really appreciate the transparency and it sounds like a good plan.
Are you the sole developer or are you outsourcing any aspect of this?
Your privacy policy implies that data collected would be anonymized. I’m assuming there’s data surrounding behavior and usage that clearing houses or even Spotify themselves would be interested in paying you for. This is the part that I don’t get. What is being collected, who will have access to it, and why. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine if people collect my data, but I do expect some detail as to what’s going on behind the scenes with it.
Nothing is stored on my side except a list of Spotify ID's for the future one-time payment and a counter for the amount of playlists created by each. that's all. Because I am using a third-party tool for download statistics and origin (AppsFlyer) I added this clause but I am really not collecting any data.
I am not the actual developer. I thought of the idea and researched the Spotify API. I hired developers for the actual job.
Do they make this for good music streaming services like YouTube Music and Tidal?
Type, "made for you" in the search bar, filter by playlists
Try choosing a song by one artists, and then changing the genre (Other tab) to a genre that is not usually associated with that artist. The results may surprise you...
I will say, I like the way these playlists don't pull from your existing preferences. This addresses one of my main issues with spofity- that it'll put you into a musical rut recommending mostly what you're already listening to. I have a pretty broad music taste, so this helps a ton.
I've made a handful of playlists since my prior comment(s) and they have a few songs I already knew, but had a good amount of fresh songs I hadn't heard that fit nicely. I've been making spotify playlists for years and this is a good jumping off point for a new one. Spits out a 3 hour playlist of a given vibe with some cool customization options.
New playlists I make might just go through groovifi and then be enhanced by spotify and curated by me. Very into the BPM option, next one will be a high bpm running playlist of obscure metal.
That's exactly the point of this app. When you enter the car, instead of launching Spotify, open Groovifi, choose a song, fiddle a little with the controls to suit your current mood, save playlist and play it directly in Spotify. This sound like a lot of steps but it takes around 3 seconds. Download the app and try for yourself! Let me know how it works for you.
Thanks! I hope you like the app!
Thanks for the detailed comment! I also recommend playing with the Genre filter (in Other tab). When combining it with a non-related artists is gives out interesting results. And speaking of obscure metal - Do you know Orphaned Land?
I've been off metal for a while, can't say the name rings a bell. Euro, American, or somewhere else?
Middle Eastern Metal. I am not a metal fan usually but I really dig them.
That's neat. I'll give then a dig. If you haven't seen Bloodywood, they're Punjabi metal, and I think they're pretty cool.
I meant the playlist that mixes news podcasts and music, not to actually driving.
To me, that playlist is a very good idea, but I don’t want to listen to the same songs everyday, even when I like all of them.
Thanks so much for this. As a music lover, I want control, not the algorithm. This gives me exactly that. Great app.
this is actually really nice. it’s hard to find good playlists and discover new bands on spotify with the genre i listen to
Just downloaded, and did something based off my current favorite song, and it gave me a Playlist full of bangers I've never heard!
You have something good here!
Spotify would be SO much better if when it creates playlists for me it doesn't include almost all songs from my liked list. Include some sure but I dont want to have to go to my Discover Weekly just to hear new music.
Same, Spotify gives me mood based playlists, genre, ones, specific artist mixes, and the song and artist radios change regularly.
This comment right here convinces me to give it a try.
No one. After I gain many users, I will probably introduce a pro tier that will have a one-time payment or ads, but currently it is completely free and I am not collecting any information.
Thanks! Happy to hear that!
That's good to hear! I wish you good luck then :)
This works great! I love doing "rabbit hole" music sessions with Spotify to discover new music and this is a great tool for that. I'm actually surprised how accurate it is just based on a few searches. I would pay for this!
Thanks!!
This is super rad!
I also like ListenByLabel which allows you to make custom playlists of your fav record labels https://lbl.fm
Hate to break it to you but Spotify is the greatest of all time.
If you "create" a playlist based on a song or artist, it will do what that commenter said.
rock rhlunning is such a vibe
They suck, in my 2021 Year in Review my top listened to song was a song by a band neither of which I've ever chosen to play.
I miss Grooveshark's slider that let you choose Familiar - Explorative on their automatic playlisting. Honestly I think ANY algorithmically generated feed needs this (Insta, YT, Spotify, whatever) to prevent people getting sheltered into sameness who would prefer some variety.
Your job (after creating an amazing product) is in two steps. 1. Spread the word. I'll tell my friends. I actually have a few friends who will be interested, but it won't be enough globally. 2. Create an income to keeps yourself interested. The second depends on the first. I really hope you succeed. I need this product in the future.
🔥
Sounds like a cool idea! Interested to see where this goes.
As people point out, Spotify's current lista aren't changing all too often. Some more than others. I can attest to it myself, I have one track in an editorial playlist and it's been there for ages now, pretty surprising. I thought they'd change it at least each month.
Regardless it would be great to have a tool like yours for artists. Or combine it somehow, that people not only find new playlists but new artists.
For us artists it's almost entirely pointless to be in playlists, because it doesn't pay a lot and many playlists don't give meaningful metrics. Sure it's some plays and if you're lucky it'll make you a couple of bucks too. But many people listen to it passively and won't even like or save your track for later. Everything becomes futile this way, focuses entirely on the consumer and very little on the creators. What we as artists need is people to find us, our pages and I believe it can also be beneficial for listeners. Isn't it fun to discover a nice new artist?
Trying to log in through my gmail gives me "login failed".
Do you have Spotify installed and logged on in your phone? If so it should logon automatically. Google logon works on Spotify only if you created your Spotify account through Google.
Thanks!
I don't know what's happening with the gmail login because it straight up takes me back to the home page. I've managed to login using my autogenerated name and password though. Cool app.
Select song / artist you like > click start artist / song radio
Do the same thing a day later, the same music comes on…
Do the same thing a week later, the same music comes on…
Ya get the idea.
Maybe I’m doing it wrong? Maybe I’m too spoiled by the original Pandora project?
The Discover Weekly playlist is where I find a lot of new music. I use artist/song radio to find similar sounds. Also, when I find an artist I like, I check if they have any curated playlists. These can be a goldmine of new tunes that are not algorithmically generated.
It says it's not compatible with my phone which is strange.
I have a Poco f2 with a snapdragon CPU.
and you can also “enhance” any playlist you’ve made and it’ll sprinkle in new songs throughout the playlist
[deleted]
I don’t get your complaint with Spotify recommended curated playlists, the whole point is to pull from your existing musical taste to curate a playlist you’d like. What would be its point if it just created random playlists? The discover weekly playlists are made of songs you don’t have saved/listen to.
Right, but that's not always the playlist I want. I make new playlists to explore new genres, and spotify doesn't handle that well. I don't mind, nor did I complain about spotify's playlists, but they have limits.
See I feel like things like this should be more obvious.
I think “enhance” is a pretty new feature (like 1-2 months ago?)
The main thing I miss since moving from Pandora to Spotify is that Pandora allowed you to shuffle all of your stations meaning you could be listening to different music all day without having to intervene and change the station. Made music at work very nice. I don't like to stop what I'm doing to tell Spotify to play something else. I just wanna hear a variety of everything all day. If there's a way to make Spotify do this that I haven't figured out yet, please let me know!!
Well, I have over 3200 like songs from Jimmy Buffet to Tool and from Miles Davis to Billy Strings, so I can literally just play my own liked songs for a pretty much a whole month at work and never hear the same song twice. (unless I put it on shuffle 🙄).
I have also made playlists that last for 8 hours or more. Or I could queue up several shorter playlists at the start of the day, and they'd play throughout the day.
Playlist radios, enhancing playlists, Spotify playlists, radios based on a single song choice. If you're feeling adventurous look for playlists made by other listeners that would last all day.
My work days are too variable and filled with interruptions so I don't ever try to set and let something play. But on the weekends I'll select a playlist or a group of albums to play and just let it go all day.
For instance today I queued up a couple Trip-hop playlists along with a funk/soul mix and we just had that on in the background from noon until 9:00 PM with family and friends over. Only paused it when we were doing video calls with our grown kids who couldn't be here.
I hope this gave you a few ideas for how to listen to Spotify all day.

seriously its good (and i only tried the "click apply on the song you like. save playlist, no changes at all), VERY good
finaly some "similiar" songs i actually like :)
Thanks!! I really appreciate that
Thanks everyone for your kind comments! If you liked the app please review it, rate it, and spread the word!
How does this work? Where does it draw the songs from? Spotify api doesn’t have a search by key endpoint for example so I’m just curious :)
Please do make one for Apple Music 🙏🏻

Neat! Spotify tends to generate some pretty solid playlists automatically though. I wish it supported Apple Music.
