I saw this question on Facebook and it's a weird one for me, but, Tammi Terrell is my choice. She died long before I was born but, a few months back, I'd been really getting into her beautiful duet work with Marvin Gaye and found out her story. She was gang raped at 11, violently beaten (on more than one occasion) by James Brown (her boyfriend, when she was 17 - he was 29), got married to a man she thought she loved who then turned out to have a wife and ANOTHER girlfriend, got her head smashed in by her next boyfriend after that and eventually died half blind, in a wheelchair, losing her hair from a brain tumor, at just 24 years old.
It truly broke my heart to read.
