Pennridge has enacted a shadow book ban by checking out all copies of targeted books for an entire year. What’s worse is that they are trying to hide it. For instance, they checked all copies of targeted books back in to fulfill an RTK request, then checked them back out after it was filed and sent.

Edit: I'm not a lawyer. I'm not in the legal profession. You obviously had counsel and they did their job. In the final determination - Legal Analysis point one;

"Here, the Request seeks a report of “all titles checked out by those patrons that are not students.”[...]"

The issue isn't they didn't give you what you want, the issue is you didn't ask for the information you wanted.

Your counsel should and could help you rewrite the RTK request, you want policy's that dictate internal review procedure for determination of books purported ability to be removed, and what criteria is determined to make a book become under review. Any communication regarding books that should be or shouldn't be banned directly or indirectly to the board and all their staff.

That's the stuff you want. They can't do anything without having procedure, and procedures need to be followed.

I’m shocked that the people banning these books wouldn’t even read them in their entirety first.

Shocked, I say.

The most dangerous thing a school age child in America has to deal with every day is the threat of a christian with a gun showing up.

Actually it's probably their drive to and from school. But that's a risk society doesn't care about for some reason.

Not endorsing christians with guns, which i hope is obvious, but it's reddit so I probably have to point that out

No, it's guns. Currently, they are the leading cause of death for kids.

Death, but car accident injuries are way higher.

Keeping ideologues on both sides busy fighting over nonsense so they don't have time for the boring stuff, that involves finances, that actually can make a difference for their side.

No child was going to check out those books. Not even once. You I know. I know it. Everybody know it. It's just an arbitrary "red line" that both sides are fighting over. It's utterly inconsequential for "student learning".

True.

But a few might read them while in the shelves when no one was watching.

Wonder when Pennridge will ban Call of the Wild. Dog gets beat and beat and beat. Not sure the little ones should be exposed to animal abuse. And then there is... Moby Dick. /s

Instead of using one of at least several internet browsing devices that each child has access to at home?

These are books, not girlie mags. Plus, some kids will avoid the possibility of their parents finding their browsing history by picking up an actual book.

Like mine did a few years ago.

Nobody is even going to look at these books. I don't know what planet you are from, but school libraries were obsolete even before the age of internet. These kids have personal cell phones with internet. They have access to the internet everywhere. If some kid is intent on finding some "sensitive" information, claiming that the school library is their only option is beyond absurd.

You clearly have no idea what you are prattling on about. And your weak effort to turn my comments into what they are not is pathetic. If an absurdity is what you seek, look no further than into your own mirror.
