I was considering Pittsburgh too, but I didn't want to pay for parking every night

Not sure you'd have to if you aren't in the city proper. If you're doing AirBnB, those are usually in neighborhoods. Outlying areas will have free parking at a motel/hotel and could be a good balance of great nature activities and cool restaurants.
