What's it like living near the T. F. Greene?

Currently looking at buying a house in Warwick which is about a mile away from the airports smaller (northwest/southeast) runway. Typically planes use the longer (southwest/northeast) runway, though occasionally they use the smaller runway on the rare occasions the wind is blowing in that direction.

My question is, does anyone have any experience living in this area? is it loud?

I tried going to the property and sitting in my car however the the smaller runway was not in use so its hard to tell.

I live about a mile or so south of the airport just off Post rd, and almost never hear planes. Don't know how, but I dont

I’m like 2 miles and face the SW runway from the airport. I sometimes hear when they rev the engines on take off on the NE runway, but really have to pay attention. Take off pattern is over my house for destinations south and west which is most of the noise I hear. It seems TF Green has most of their flights 5-8 am and then 7-10 pm. In my opinion it’s no louder (except maybe for some of the real large planes) than when I was 20 miles from BWI and planes came in on approach over my house. Sure I hear planes but it doesn’t really bother me or is much of a nuisance.

I looked at several houses East of the airport and honestly didn’t notice much noise but it was always during the slower times during the day. I’d say if you have lived near an airport in pattern or near a base with military jets you probably wouldn’t notice after the first couple days.

I’m just off Warwick Ave, near Larry’s liquors and Dons Pizza and the most we ever get is a very sporadic low thunder-rumble type sound (except for the day the blue angels were in town). We had looked at a few houses in Warwick before settling in this one. Main Ave and Carpenter st were other locations we looked at and they had loud airplane noise and a ton of traffic.

Your realtor might know what kind of airport noise you’ll get in the places you’re looking at. One question to keep in mind for any house is to ask if it’s in an area where the airport pays to replace the windows every few years. That’ll give you an idea of noise as well.

I live 2 miles away between Gregg's and Balise. You get used to the noise and only pay attention when they change the traffic pattern. You learn to tune it out.

I used to live by the airport about a street away. Honestly it isn’t as bad as you’d think. I really only hear the planes around the afternoon around rush hr time it’s background noise to me at this point.

I used to live a mile or two away and one of the main approaches was a ways off from our backyard. We could hear planes coming in every 10-15 mins during certain stretches of morning and evening but tbh you just sort of tune it out after a week or so and I never really noticed it again like 95% of the time.

I live off Toll Gate Rd. I rarely notice the planes but visitors do. You really do get so you don't hear them.

I used to live right under the main flight path. Honesty you get used to it and don't notice it at all. For reference I was so close that over the air antenna TV would cut out for a second when a plane was above

I grew up off Post Rd. between Rt. 37 and Ann & Hope, so on the approach side of Runway 16. The noise was fine... they don't use this runway very often, and even when they do, it's usually smaller planes that use it - the larger commercial jets still use Runway 23 (the long run between Airport Rd. and Main Ave.). Most of the traffic that flew over us was small single-engine prop planes. You learn how to tune it out pretty quickly.

One of my friends lives right off of Airport Rd. a few blocks to the side of Runway 23. The only noise I hear when I'm there is when large jets start spooling their engines to start their takeoff roll. It only lasts a few seconds.

Most houses immediately surrounding the airport should have beefed up windows to help with noise reduction. We only ever really noticed the noise when we were outside in the summer, for example.

I lived over there and it’s not great. Between noise pollution and the ever present metallic smell in the air it kinda sucks. Also I was sick more often 100%. Cars also get a ton of iron deposits on them from the fuel.

Grew up near Hoxie Four, now living by Sand Pond. I could not tell you how often they pass by. Adapted to tuning the planes out completely.

I have a friend who actually sold his place and left Warwick bc of the airplane noise and increase in air traffic. He lived near divine Italian restaurant. We’d be sitting in his yard and you had to pause your conversation when a plane flew over. He’s lived there for over 5 years before it got out of hand.

Lived near the warwick public library most of my life so it doesn't bother me much. like other stated it's a low thundery sound. If I have the windows open and the TV on if it's a busy day at the airport I turn the volume up a few notches. I have to say it's nothing like when I would visit my grandparents condo on Rt 1 or my BFs house in appanoag hearing the trains go by, shaking the building, the whistling, ooof I'll take the airport any day over trains.

Aviation fan here! Tf green often doesn’t have large planes land ( biggest is usually a a321 or a 757) and the frequency is usually a few fights per hour other then maybe like 4 or 5 pm where it’s one every10 mins. It’s really not terrible, if you were to live near Logan that gets huge planes and has a landing every minute or so that would be annoying.

I didn't live super close to the airport, but I did take piano lessons from someone who lived in the neighborhood that recently got bought up by the airport. If you're *that* close, then the noise of the planes taking off and landing was certainly enough to interrupt my piano lessons. It wouldn't be my first choice for an area to live in around Warwick.

That runway gets used more in the summer when the prevailing winds switch from the north to the south. Look at an aerial view of the airport and extend the runways out 2-3 miles and you’ll get a direct view of the flight paths.

I live extremely close by, to the point where after a minute of walking I can see fences that are for the boundaries of the airport. It doesn't feel 'loud' to me personally

I live off West Shore Rd about 2 miles southeast of the airport. I rarely hear a thing. Maybe the occasional plane at night but it’s not any louder than a car from here.

That’s how I feel about train noise. I grew up about half a mile from the tracks and Kingston Station, close enough that it would rattle the light fixtures in our house, and I find the sound of trains in the distance soothing.

I grew up on Fairfax drive and the fight path was right over the house. Shook the windows constantly.

Ummm, airplane tech has advanced by leaps and bounds. Most of the planes that fly into Greene are relatively new and way quieter than anything people experienced a decade ago. Best bet is to go sit in your car over there and listen.

I work in the industrial park off Airport rd. The noise isn't too bad, but the traffic around the whole area is terrible.

I live in the lower part of Warwick Neck, you get used to the sound and most of the time do not even hear it. Once I lived on the other side of Confreda Farm and it was not intrusive, but noticeable.

I have to wash the West side of my house yearly as the particulate matter from the planes is noticeable...

I live in the flight path to the southeast of TF Green. It's really not bad at all. Only really noticeable in the summer on Sundays for the most part. Way less obnoxious than living near a moderately busy road like Warwick Ave in my experience.

Grew up 10 minute's from the airport. It's bad. You only notice it when you're watching TV with the windows open and can't hear the TV for 30 seconds

Idk about this. Grew up in Warwick. About two miles from the airport. And worked accross the street. was told I’d never have kids at 16. Now I have five. first one was at 17 yrs old. Responsible. Not really. Proves this the sort wrong. Probably.

I used to live on Lakeshore Drive, at the dead end that abutted the gate to the East runway, where the planes landed or turned to take off, approximately 500ft from the runway. Jets landing and taking off about 5am-11pm. It sucks, but like a lot of other things, you get used to it.

Noise pollution: We moved into the house, which brand new. When planes got ready to take off, our whole house would shake, windows rattling and everything, which is how we discovered our house was built without any (or extra? Idk, I was a kid) sound proofing.

Water pollution: Runoff from the runway. I used to explore the wetlands adjacent along Buckeye Brook, which were behind my house, and the water always had orangey layers of oil, fuel, etc. in the pooled areas.

Air pollution: Jet fuel is chock full of neurotoxic and carcinogenic substances. This is anecdotal and I understand that correlation doesn't equal causation but: my mom and her siblings grew up on the other side of the airport, near Post Road. My mom, at least two of her sisters, and her mom all had cancer. My mom also told me that a lot of kids she played with had cancer as adults.

TL;DR: Live as far from the airport as possible for the health of you and your family.

Just bought a house off Warwick Ave and Airport Road just over a month ago, most of the windows on the houses in the area around the airport are pretty thick, so I don't hear much other than what it would sound like if a car drove by. I thought it would be a concern as well, but it's hardly a problem for me, I don't even hear them at night if there are any.

it’s not bad i been living here in warwick for over ten years and i got used to the noise. it’s just a rumble sound that you will hear. you could get soundproof doors and windows if you really want to. the soundproof will block out the noise maybe not all of it but some of it.

It’s like living near train tracks, I’ve done both. You’ll notice it at first when they fly over, but you’ll soon forget it’s happening, especially because it’s relatively low traffic

As a student flying the Cessna 172 (Single Engine Small Plane), we only really use it if the crosswind will make 23 a bit too challenging. I've landed perhaps a handful of times on 16

Edit: Engines have become quieter. The first time flying (25 years ago this week) was on a 737-200 (N305DL) with JT8D's (first generation Turbo Jets, low bypass). Hearing the engines spool up to Takeoff power, it screams power, but it is like a V8 with a straight pipe

it’s good when you are outside you will definitely hear it more as if you were to be inside but it’s really not that bad; the airport really is not super busy so you will not hear planes all the time. yes the airport is international but it’s not a busy airport. the sound doesn’t bother me because i got used to the noise. you got anymore questions?

Honestly I'm a fan of Warwick. Every time I've been down there the people are chill, it's a nice blue collar town. Looks like general consensus is air pollution is a big concern...That would honestly be enough to eliminate the area for me, bummer. I really wouldn't take what others who live & have lived there for a while say about this - lightly.
