Hey all,

I know this is super lazy but does anyone have ideas for something to do today? Maybe indoors d/t the weather? Whenever I try to look up events it's either bands at bars after 6PM or kids stuff. I'm also wondering where everyone finds out about stuff going on around the state/near them.

Thanks

I'm currently attempting to get out of bed to go to a farmers market. Farm Fresh is my go-to Saturday market but Mount Hope is also enjoyable.

Instagram is my usual source for events (I follow local musicians, market planners, and pop ups). Google is easy too.

Some folks also use FB events and EventBrite.

Those ridiculously good street food/wrap things the Pita Pocket vendor makes are worth heading out to the Mount Hope market alone! 🤤

(Can anyone tell me what they are called?! I am embarrassed I don't know, and also more people need to know so they can order them!)

Check out the "Discover"-type Instagram accounts for places like Newport, Warren, Providence, South County, (wherever) - they usually curate a nice set of events or cool things to know about, etc.

Check out Rhode Island Monthly’s website. I get the magazine and check the website often. There’s a lot of random things like festivals and markets that I found out about through them. A lot if it is geared toward warmer weather, but there’s some good stuff on there.

If you like soccer the liverpool supporters group meet at Murphy’s to watch the games. A fun atmosphere

RISD Museum is always a good go to if you’re into any type of art or display of the creative minds. Parking’s always “fun”, but Bolt Coffee will warm you right up.

And if this feels oddly specific, it is in fact because I am at Bolt Coffee at RISD museum warming up to coffee 😀

I cant help with the first part but I found out about a beer and cheese tasting by liking Edgewoods cheese business on Facebook, a pasta making class from liking litl rhody pasta company's page. I also follow ri food trucks for their events and news. I just start liking small local businesses that are active in communities and eventually they post an event that sounds intresting!

I went to the Roger Williams Botanical Center this morning. There are some nice greenhouses filled with plants that you can walk around. It's warm and filled with nature. :)

Nope! But their falafel is definitely good.

It's this wonderfully chewy and thin crepe-like wrap they cook from fresh dough on a convex griddle. Then, they fill it with spinach & feta, meat, or a combo of both. It looks almost like a burrito. I think they said it's a common Turkish street food?

Literally haven't stopped talking about it since my first one. An older woman (mother? Grandmother?) actually cooked it for me, which made it more amazing, tbh in Grandmas we trust!... They don't make them in their Barrington restaurant - just at MHF for some reason! I hope you get to try one!!

Because farmers have so much to do in their day! Modern retail situations have made us feel differently, and make out-of-season food creepily accessible, but it's helpful to consider harvest timing and capacity. Talk to you local farmer or farmers market manager about what's currently available 🤓
