Can’t speak specifically to rum cake, but Scialo’s definitely is not the same with the new owner.

Scialo’s was our go-to for all baked goods pre-pandemic. When it reopened we were so excited, but… definitely not as good now.

I couldn't agree more!! I grew up in that neighborhood and have gone there for 45 years. They are most definitely not even close to doing it the same way. If you need any recommendations on some lovely bakeries for the holidays... just ask! I have the double duty on Christmas to get my husband a birthday cake for Christmas day and have had to experiment with many over the years!

Thanks for replying. I didn’t think it would be so tough being near Johnston and Cranston. We’ll just have to wait til we go back to Utica.

No problem at all! The Massachusetts bakery is a little less than an hour away. Not a bad ride. But for some reason it isnt overly popular here? I asked my mom if she knew of anyone else who made them. She said Lasalle bakery might. Give them a call. And she said Vienna bakery makes a good one. She knows for sure. If you are ever looking for anything, just give me a shout!
