I just visited the zoo this past weekend and a lot of pumpkins were still on display. Having a closer look in the daylight they looked fake & upon further investigation they turned out to be styrofoam........... Is this common knowledge? All these years I thought they were real with such beautiful designs thinking it took so much time and talent, and it turns out to just be styrofoam. I feel pretty betrayed. Lied to. Scammed. The public must know.

It might not be common knowledge, but it’s understandable. If they were all real, there’s no way they’d sit there all month without rotting or being eaten by squirrels.
It also takes months to carve them all; there’s still talent involved. The whole thing is produced by Passion for Pumpkins, an outside company which runs the event in multiple cities.
