A lot of place in Rhode Island like to rent to students September until Mid May. Then they like to charge out the ass and do summer rentals. This is especially true for places near coastal areas. Providence and surrounding will certainly have less of this and you are more likely to find year round rentals. One thing to keep in mind is that electricity in Rhode Island just went way up. I only mention this because when you budget plan to spend a lot more on utilities than many other states.

Those beach house rentals are also brutally cold in between November and March. They aren't really winterized. I remember going to friends houses in Bonnet shore and sleeping in my boots and winter coat

Yeah I’m learning that as we speak! Electric baseboard heat is horrible and I’m terrified of the electric bill.
