Hello, does anybody know of an inspection station in RI that will pass my jeep with tinted windows?

Christopher motors in Warwick may do it. I've squeaked my car by with them once or twice. maybe just roll the front windows down when you pull up 😂

I’ll give them a try. I usually take the doors off before I get it inspected but it’s a little too chilly for that now.

Might be worth sending it with the doors off. I also have heard rolling the windows down then pulling the fuse so they can't roll em up but when I got inspected I was told they have to take a picture with the window half down so you can see the difference and with cameras being involved more it's gotten a lot harder I ended up scraping mine off and have been too lazy to get it done again

All inspection stations now have camera systems in them and are recorded while doing inspections. That's why less places do them now. The photo is taken with the front windows half up. The station can have its inspections license pulled if they pull their cameras and they can't provide that photo of a vehicle. If they have enough violations for it. They can be fined if caught a certain number of times first. There were a few stations that tried and went through this. It sucks. I had to sit there while mid inspection and peel my professional tint off. Total bullshit. It wasn't even dark. You'd never even have thought I had one! I had purchased my truck used a year before. It was like 5% and I had to peel it.

You won't be able to pass with tint. If you do find a shop to do it, no tint on windshield or drivers side window. Drivers side window has to be rolled down half way, so you can clearly see glass on the bottom and no glass on top, and 4 or 5 pics are now uploaded to the DMV so they can be reviewed.

Pics include: front plate, rear plate, drivers window half down, vin tag from the door, gauge cluster with the vehicle running.

So if you take the drivers window off and roll down the rest you may get away with it. If the DMV catches a shop passing a car or truck that isn't suppose to pass they can get their inspection license taken.

I've been inspecting cars in RI for the last 8 years. The picture thing is only a year old or so.

Would it pass if I take the front doors off and put on the side mirrors? (It’s a jeep wrangler)

I mean I guess it's all up to the person inspecting it. Doors are technically on the list of safety measurements we have to check. But I feel safe assuming no one would put a sticker on without doors. It's a liability they might not want to risk. They already make like no money at all inspecting vehicles. Most shops do it as a convenience to the customer, so they can find a few little things wrong and make a few dollars.

State inspection is 55. I'm pretty sure the state gets most of it, shops make like 10 bucks.

You could always just take the tint off drivers window. Get a sticker. Then get it re tinted.

I know a place in New Bedford that said if you are from RI you can come to MA and they will inspect it (I believe with tint as long as it is 35%. That's the Massachusetts limit.)

It should be legal since it's an suv

Pretty sure suvs still need the front windows at legal levels but everything else can be as dark as you want. Which I find stupid that suvs can be as dark as they want in the backseat but sedans coupes a d hatchbacks get fucked

That’s not what it it. They may be getting by with aftermarket tint over the factory tint, but in RI all aftermarket tint is illegal, all of it.

That's fair that might be an old guideline I know I looked into it pretty aggressively 3-4 years ago and was going off the top of my head
