My friend and I recently went shopping together and both found gorgeous dresses. We were talking about how it's a shame we have no where to wear them to! That got me wondering if there are any good holiday (like Christmas or New Years) events in Rhode Island anyone knows of where people can dress up nice! We wanna have some fun! Thanks!

Ocean House has a NYE party, if you’re looking to spend a decent amount of money.

This the most American thing I've read in a while. Why do you need a special occasion or reason to get dressed up? People in Milan get dressed up nice to go for a coffee or grocery shopping 🤷‍♂️

My ex and I would buy expensive suits/dresses, hide the tag and go out for an expensive Newport dinner/stroll.

The next day we would return the clothes lol

The US does not have a homogenous culture; lack of same is pretty much what defines us as a nation.

That said, three years into a pandemic, a lot of (US) young adults are living in sweats or flannel pajama bottoms 😆

So yeah, CasualAreUs pretty much

(Not many cities in the world -- if any -- are up to Milan standards)

Blithewold in Bristol used to host Christmas parties of some type -- never attended one, but had the sense you would dress as for a Christmas party in a stately mansion. Blithewold is always worth a tour anyway if you haven't yet been. Call or google.

Finally someone else noticed the pajamas/sweatpants epidemic!

When I went to high school sweatpants were taboo.

I went to the movies a few weeks ago on a day off. a 2pm screening I counted 10 people wearing Pajamas.

It slipped my mind where it was for New Years but I did see a couple events going on in or near prov that asked for patrons to wear nicer outfits. Sorry I couldn’t be more help

I don't have great suggestions but I just want to affirm buying a great dress and needing to wear it.

Consider the sojourner House Gala next year. The fireball. In the spring there is the Providence preservation society gala. Always a good time. Etc.

Good luck!
