nobody likes hearing that their problems are invalid because someone else “has it worse;” comparing life struggles is a pointless, and admittedly unhealthy thing. oh, someone else is homeless? I suppose I shouldn’t have persistent depressive disorder and PTSD, at least I have a roof over my head.
someone else can have things better, or worse; but stating that to another person as a reason their problems don’t matter as much is damaging, especially if it comes to trauma, in psychology. of course people seem to hate hearing “your feelings don’t matter as much because someone else has it worse”— generally the way “others have it worse” is used/implied in conversation. what person wouldn’t be aggravated by that?
and yes, people are hypocritical, especially if the “better”/greener grass is being rich, or non-mentally-ill, or otherwise the other person in question is getting benefits/comforts in life that you wish you had. not healthy to minimize anybody’s issues, but it’s unsurprising.
