This is a friendly reminder to read our rules.

Remember, /r/Showerthoughts is for showerthoughts, not "thoughts had in the shower!"

(For an explanation of what a "showerthought" is, please read this page.)

Rule-breaking posts may result in bans.

The "correct" number of people older than you never increases.

The problem becomes what is the correct number? I would argue it can never be known as the null hypothesis is unfalsifiable with current methods.

Census data would be the source for this data and needs to be corrected all of the time.

But the amount of times this is reposted continually goes up.
Read the rules please, if just the first one :(

Globally thats hard to argue with. Thats impossible to measure accurately tough. Locally that might not be the case. In my country the number of people older then me is still rising slowly. Refugees so yeah

There's a really small time dilation because of gravity that under the right conditions can prove this wrong.

Time moves ever so slightly differently in orbit than it does on Earth’s surface.

It is possible for an astronaut to change positions with someone else.

What if I was born when somebody went under then seconds later they were brought back to life by CPR? Loophole baby

I think you are.

You have to know the number to verify, you can't go through life assuming based on Fuzzy-Wuzzy non-practical applications.

The number represents a data point and that data point cannot be verified to be 100% accurate.

If the number is not 100% accurate then a reconciliation could cause the number to increase, thus proving your claim incorrect.

I think you are having a hard time grasping the fact that when applied, your observation falls short. It's okay to be wrong, you just need to revise.

No, you do not need an absolute number. You do not need to know how many people are alive at any given moment to know that "The number of people older than you never increases". There are always fewer unless some are born older than you.

But I'll tell you what does increase... the idiots who keep posting the same things on here over and over again 🤦‍♂️

Globally is what the showerthought is about. It doesn't specify any geographic area. And given that, it is not simply hard to argue with... it is impossible to argue with unless somehow people are being born that are already older than you at their birth.
