Hi everyone,

Long shot but worth asking. I would like to do some heavy work in my backyard (build a firepit, swimming pool, terrace, etc.) and I'm looking for a landscape architect.

If you've done similar work in the past in the region and you're happy with the result, I'd be interested in getting their contact details!

ps: I'm looking for recommendations, not direct solicitation from contractors themselves.

Thanks!

Not sure how big your project is...but you may not need to involve an architect depending on the scale. A lot of landscape companies will bring their own designs/ideas based on what they have done for similar spaces.

Also you may want to find out where your water table is, where your septic is (if u have one) and the location of any drainage systems (for gutters, footing drains, etc.).

That will be some of the first questions you will need answered, and a landscape company may be able to figure that out on their own without outside help (an architect may charge you extra to hire third parties).

Again, depends on your scope and your needs. Also you should know that with the weather warming up, everyone's scheduling is likely filling up fast.

(Not an ad I promise) I've worked with Bolton Landscaping and I think he might suit your needs.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I totally agree with you regarding the architect. My only concern is that the scope of services (and the associated quality) vastly varies between landscaping companies so I thought going with a landscape architect would be safer (but definitely more expensive). Because we're not very knowledgeable about this whole process, what we want to avoid is hiring a "traditional" landscaping company faking / overselling their experience in hardscaping when in reality they mainly do more traditional work (mowing, pruning, planting, etc.).

Very good point regarding the water table, this is something we need to check. We do have a sceptic and we know where the tank and field are.

I am an architect in Stamford and have worked with several fantastic landscape architects throughout the region. I don’t know your budget, but my favorite LA is Eric Rains Landscape Architecture out of South Norwalk. He has won many awards for his work, is incredibly knowledgeable, and is a very nice guy who is easy to work with. Check out his website. Wes Stout in New Cannan is also very good.

You can try contacting Costello on Crescent St. He’s done that kind of work in the past but I don’t know if he still does.

NextDoor might be your best option for recommendations.
