Yeah, we have had vaccines which do this before. The problem is making antibodies which will effectively target the myriad variants of HIV and do so effectively enough to confer immunity. It's incredibly hard on HIV, both because the virus feeds on the immune system and because there's so many different strains of the virus, all with slightly different antigens.

I haven't read the article yet, but at first blush, I wonder if this uses the same technology as that universal coronavirus vaccine in the pipeline.
