I will also say we were on the east side of Seattle, and it was actually quite pleasant. Tons of amazing trails to walk and enjoy. It’s definitely like Portland in the sense of media only wants to show you all the crappy things… And yes, there’s crappy things both in Portland and Seattle… But there’s also good things, but that isn’t what gets the views for the media.

Ah yeah i went camping there once with my Dad, and it is indeed a gorgeous spot. Palo Duro gets forgotten about being the 2nd biggest canyon in the nation.
But thats a good example since its in the pandhandle, which is probably one of the least populated areas. There's loads of dope caves and caverns in central texas too that we take pride in. The thing is lots of these things aren't super close to major cities. When you live in Dallas for example, you're pretty far from cool nature. The urban and suburban sprawl doesn't help either.
I love our Texas gems but none of it i would say compares to the countless images i see in this sub.

Never been but your Palo Duro canyon is beautiful. You don't really see stuff like that in Washington, well not in the area I'm in at least lol

I've never been to Texas but I've seen some really awesome pictures from areas down there. A lot of hidden gems it seems like!

Living in texas with nothing but rolling farmland between cities (barring the hill gorgeous country), i couldn't imagine waking up one weekend and taking a short trip to go hike and see this. What a treat. Wish i could move.

When i visited Seattle i was not impressed with the food scene. The people i traveled with did not like asian cuisine, so i couldnt get a good taste of those options (as i do enjoy that food), though there are PLENTY.
Next to no mexican/texmex, and what is there is not good.
Plenty of seafood, and health concious dining as well, but i guess it felt like there was a lack of guilty pleasure eating. It felt like a very health-concious city in general.

In Kitsap & the scene is trying to get better but if we want something really good we go to Tacoma/Federal Way. There's a lot of Asian/Mexican places in Kitsap but the best stuff is still on the other side of the bridge unfortunately

We have driven on it from Eureka CA to Astoria OR, and all of it in WA up to Forks. Just missing the section from Forks to Port Angeles. Definitely am looking forward to driving the remainder.

Ya I find myself picking up trash in parking lots on my way into the store sometimes & every once in a while I think "this isn't my job" but it is if I want to keep enjoying the scenery! I guess we can sum it all up to some people just don't care

Yes, I don't get that either. When I was in my early 20s I woke up to the odious effects of my laziness, so easy to just drop it out the window. But as a mature adult (mostly ha ha) I could never litter. Also, pick up after my dog, and unfortunately after other people's as well on occasion. What is it with us? Scandanavian countries, Germany, etc. don't have this problem, Japan is virtually literless.

For me it's alllll the trash scattered on the highways & stuff. I find it so sad people get to live in an area like this & just toss their cups or junk out their window :/

I'm actually lucky enough to be in the Poulsbo area & get to do that drive pretty frequently! Super excited for nicer weather & longer days!

We are, one can only hope that people continue to show it respect. Seems like so many car commercials show how wonderful it is to four wheel it blasting into the wilderness throwing up dirt and drifting to a stop at a spectacular overlook.

The food here is great as long as you like teriyaki.
Everything else is on the low side of average and will cost you an arm and a leg.
Welcome to town! You're moving here at the right time of year. The sun is actually out today and it might hit 60F.

If you want access to what passes for a food scene here in Kitsap County, Port Orchard is precisely the worst place to be. You'll want to be in Bremerton or north of Bremerton. But the reality is, if you're looking for a food scene, Kitsap County isn't where you want to live. It's a semi-rural/small town [city] area.
But there is some stuff, and you can hit up r/kitsap for more details. I also recommend Kitsap County Dining and Restaurants of Kitsap County on Facebook.
And no, seafood isn't a big deal here. The Seattle/Tacoma area is hundreds of miles from the ocean and there aren't really aren't any local fishermen left.

That's true about 6 hours here & youre from one side of the state to the other, or in Oregon. Just Googled it & it's about 17 hours to do that in Texas 😬 Come visit us sometime, you'll love it!
