Really not needed on modern cars. It's usually sold as an add-on at dealerships to increase profit margin. It sometimes can actually trap moisture in and cause problems.

I'm aware that it's often a trap, but I want it for my specific vehicle - it was made in '99, while better rust protection was only introduced for the '00 model year. I bought it in Texas specifically because the frame was in great condition - rust is the big killer for Toyota BoF SUVs and I want to keep mine as long as possible.

I won't be driving much in the snow anyway, but the general consensus on the vehicle-specific forums is that it's worth getting.
