It’s a spontaneous evolution, like if you were lit on fire you could turn to stone or become an echidna.

Also it seems painful to die millions of times instantaneously to just have a resistance to alcohol

Imagine all the pain you would have to go through watching all of your loved ones die one after another and your life slowly loosing meaning. Literally nothing could kill you, you’d probably lose all motivation. Honestly eternal life could be a blessing and a curse combined.
