As we slowly move towards the redevelopment of the Macy’s in Ballston, does anyone have a firm idea who the grocer is? I’ve heard both Wegmans and Whole Foods.

Isn’t the Harris teeter almost directly across the street? Plus the target? They are putting in another grocery store?

I believe they’re talking about the plan to knock down Macy’s and build up apartments, with the bottom floor being a currently unknown grocery store. Construction hasn’t started yet. My guess is Amazon Fresh… I think the planned space is too small for a Wegmans or Whole Foods. https://www.arlnow.com/2022/12/06/ballston-macys-redevelopment-project-includes-the-most-hotly-debated-left-turn-in-a-decade/

Based on a paragraph in the article you posted, I don't think that's it:

> Insight’s attorney, Andrew Painter, says the unnamed grocer required the left turn based on “decades of experience in urban configurations.” He added that for a decade, the grocer has desired to be in Ballston, which already has a Harris Teeter nearby on N. Glebe Road, a quarter-mile away.

Amazon Fresh hasn't been around for decades.

Hope it’s a Whole Foods! What’s the timeline for completion?

Hmm, well, there's already a Safeway just a short walk further west along Wilson Blvd. It's full-sized, and because of its age I suspect it's on land that the corporation or franchisee actually owns. I can't imagine they'd move such a short distance, only for a smaller piece of real estate that they'd then be leasing. But... ¯\(ツ)

Not a single response to this thread answered the original question. To save everyone else’s time, all the useless responses were “I don’t know”
