Hi! I move to Baltimore tomorrow and I was wondering what places in the city are good to work if you're LGBT (I'm trans). One of the reasons I moved to the city was because it was ranked really high in terms of LGBT friendliness, but it's kinda hard to tell what places are good for that or not when I haven't arrived yet. Would love some pointers!
Mostly just retail and food service, looking for something kinda average till I can start college in a year
Well most of the service workers are asleep, so hopefully this thread gets some traction tomorrow.
As for advice on where to work, if you’re serving food, Harbor East has a lot of dining and is the hotel district; so always lots of work there. But depending on which neighborhood you go to, could always find a place close by. A lot of places are hiring rn. If you can’t find anything, Horseshoe is the casino and will hire you for anything that isn’t dealing. Cage cashier is ALWAYS hiring, but I will say, shit tier job. Most of the city is accepting, you’ll probably be fine wherever you get hired.

Yeah not gonna lie if I can avoid it I'd really rather not be a cashier. Beggars can't be choosers so I'll take what I can get till I can move up but I'm the kind of person where if I'm working I NEED to be moving, standing/sitting still sounds horrendous. I'm sure finding a decent job won't be hard though.

It might be worth checking in with the Pride Center of Maryland to see if they have any advice or recommendations. I dunno for sure whether they’d have something, but I do know employment is something they are concerned with (they did an LGBTQ+ job fair as part of this year’s Pride Week activities, for example).
Busboys and Poets near Hopkins U. Very friendly and decent tips for the servers.
JHU prides itself on diversity. I see you're mostly retail and food service, but that's an option to consider once you have more experience and education under your belt.
(The hospital is not as friendly.)

The hotel and hospitality industry is great for that. Hotel Ulysses and Hotel Revival in Mount Vernon would be great places to start

The new Patagonia store? My understanding is they are very diverse, have decent pay, and I think they do school $$ but you’d have to check.

I'd imagine that the food service industry in this town is pretty friendly, especially if you're a decent worker. Restaurants and bars are having such a hard time finding people that any sensible owner or manager will value any good employee.
Customers are more likely to be an issue if you're a server. If you're exposed to enough people you'll eventually run into some assholes.
True, that's an expectation I'd have at any job. Personally I just wanna be respected by boss/management and fellow coworkers too, I can take shit customers easy
