I read Atlas Shrugged and it was such a slog. I honestly don't understand how any teenager could read, let alone comprehend it and then be inspired.
Am I not getting something? How do people read this thing? Do they literally read every single word in a speech or do they skim to get the gist? Because I tend to lose the train of thought within 3-4 paragraphs of prose. I honestly feel dumb that I couldn't get it, while so many people are like "this book changed my life!"
I have the same brain nausea when I read Ulysses. I just don't understand what the point is. What's going on? Why am I reading these sentences in this order? Should I remember this event or is it not important? What does this mean?
I've read a lot of books in my life. Some, I don't get because I didn't put in the effort. But these two, I put in effort and I still don't get it. I want to understand, what am I missing?
