Did you know his longest sentence in Les Mis was 823 words long?

Why? Why must he use 20 paragraphs to describe a field or a minor character that we will never see again?

This man had a serious issue with daydreaming and staying on topic.

I read about 1/3 of it 4 years ago. I am going to attempt to listen to the audiobook version which is 62 hours long! Truly Victor Hugo is the king of verbosity.
